Chitarpur Samriddhi Mahila Kisanproducer Company Limited

Our company, Chitarpur Samriddhi Mahila Kisanproducer Company Limited, is run by a group of us women farmers in Hazaribagh. We are based over in Kurhitola, specifically at Deventi Devi’s house. She is the wife of Fagu Chau Dhar, and they have been kind enough to let us use their place for our meetings. It is a very local affair. Most of us live just a short walk away, so it is easy to get together and talk about the crops. We started this because being a woman farmer can be lonely work, and it is much better to have friends to talk to when things get difficult. We don't have any polished speeches or big plans other than just getting our vegetables to market and making enough to cover our costs. The village life here in Chitarpur is all about the soil and the seasons. We spend a lot of time worrying about the water and the heat, and this company is just a way for us to face those worries together. It is a simple life, and our company reflects that. We don't use any fancy equipment in the office, just the basics to keep track of who brought what. It’s a group effort where every woman has a say in how we do things. We are just trying to keep our traditions alive while being a bit more organized for the future.
