Swastik Engineering Works

You can find us in Tilak Nagar at Shayam Nagar Chawl N-53. Swastik Engineering Works is a small setup where we do various types of metal work and fabrication. The chawl area is quite tight, so we have to be careful with how we use the space we have. There are tools hanging on the walls and pieces of iron and steel leaning in the corners. We do a lot of welding and grinding, which means there are often sparks flying around while we work. It’s a hot job, especially during the summer months when the air doesn't move much in the shop. We started here a while back and have just kept going with the same routine. Customers bring us sketches or just explain what they need, and we try to get the dimensions right. It isn't a high-tech place, just a lot of manual labor and using the lathe. We go through a lot of sandpaper and grinding wheels. Sometimes the power goes out, and we just have to wait it out or do the manual stuff while the machines are quiet. The neighbors at Shayam Nagar know the sound of our shop starting up in the morning. We don't have a fancy office, just a desk with some old registers where we keep track of the jobs. It’s just how we earn our living here at N-53, one piece of metal at a time.
