Suraj Engineering Works. is located at I-250 in Karampura. It’s a straightforward shop in a busy part of the neighborhood. We’ve got machines set up for all sorts of engineering tasks. It’s a bit cramped inside because we try to fit as much equipment as possible. There’s a lot of grease and oil around, which is expected in this kind of place. We don’t have a fancy storefront. It’s just a gate and a sign. Most of the time, the shutters are up and you can hear the sounds of metal being worked. Karampura has a lot of small shops like ours, so we fit right in. We’ve been here long enough that we know most of the people on the street. It’s a regular routine of taking in jobs and finishing them up. We don’t have a dedicated secretary or anything. If the phone rings, whoever is free picks it up. We use old-school tools mostly, because they last longer and we know how to fix them ourselves. The floor is concrete and has seen a lot of use over the years. We don't worry about the aesthetics much. We just want to get the engineering work done. It can get very hot in there during the afternoon sun. We usually take a short break for some tea and then get right back to the lathe or the drill. It’s a modest place but it serves its purpose for the work we do every day.
