Novelity Ice Cream

Our little shop, Novelity Ice Cream, is tucked away in Janakpuri at the Choti Sabzi Mandi, number 41351. It’s a lively place to be because the vegetable market is right there. All day long you hear the vendors shouting their prices and the tractors moving in and out. It’s a bit dusty and loud, but we like the energy. We have our freezers packed with different tubs and sticks. Usually, after people finish their vegetable shopping, they stop by for something cold. It’s a nice break for them. We have a small counter where we stand. There isn't much space to walk around inside, so we keep everything organized. I handle the money and the stock, while my nephew helps with the serving. We’ve had a few repairs to do on the cooling systems lately, which was a headache, but we got it fixed. You can’t have an ice cream shop with broken freezers. Sometimes we sit on the stools outside when it’s not too hot and just watch the crowd. It’s interesting to see all the different people coming through the mandi. We don’t try to be anything special. We just provide a cool treat in a busy, hot market. The floor is old tile and the walls could use a fresh coat of paint, but it works for us. We’re here every day, from morning until the market clears out. That is just how our life goes at the mandi.
