Nirmal Store

Our shop is located at E-369-4 in Tilak Market, right on Rama Road. It is a bit of a maze around here if you aren't local, but most people find us eventually. We sell the basic things that households need every day. I spend most of my time behind the counter counting out change or restocking the pulses and spices. It gets a bit dusty because of the main road, so we are always wiping things down. The ceiling fan makes a bit of a clicking sound, but we don’t really notice it anymore. We aren't a big supermarket, just a regular corner store where you can buy a single packet of biscuits or a kilo of sugar. My father started this and now I’m the one here every morning at eight. We close up when the market gets dark. There’s no fancy computer here, just a notebook for keeping track of what we need to order from the wholesalers. Sometimes we run out of bread early, and I have to tell the neighbors to wait for the next delivery. It's a small space, so we have to stack things high up to the roof. You have to be careful when pulling a box down. We know most of our customers by their first names because they live just a few streets away. It’s just how we do things here.
