Kiran Rice Traders

You can find us at A1/19 on Hastsal Road in Uttam Nagar. Kiran Rice Traders is where we spend our whole day. The air inside always smells like grain and jute bags. We have bags of rice stacked up against every wall. Some are basmati, others are just the regular kind people eat every day. It’s a simple business. We get the sacks in, and we sell them to whoever walks in or calls. The floor is usually covered in a bit of dust from the heavy bags being moved around. We have a small scale for weighing and a desk that has seen better days. The traffic on Hastsal Road is always a bit much, especially when the delivery trucks try to park. We’ve been in this spot for a long time, so most people in the neighborhood know our faces. We don’t bother with fancy packaging or big signs. If the quality of the rice is good, people come back. That’s how it has always worked for us. Sometimes it gets really hot in the summer, but we keep the fans going. It’s mostly just family working here. We take turns going for lunch while someone stays back to mind the shop. It isn't a glamorous job, but it’s steady. We just keep doing what we know. We have an old calendar on the wall that we forget to flip sometimes. The birds often fly in if we leave the big shutter open too long.
