Gianis Ice Cream

Gianis Ice Cream is located over at Janakpuri 12, 19. I have been working at this spot for quite a few years now. Most of my mornings start the same way. I unlock the shutters and check if the freezers stayed cold through the night. It is a bit of a worry when the electricity acts up, but we usually manage fine. The shop is not very large. It is mostly just the counter and the machines. I spend a lot of time wiping down the surfaces. It gets sticky quickly when you are dealing with sugar and cold things. Janakpuri is a busy area. I see people walking their dogs or heading home from work every evening. Many of them stop by for a bit. It’s nice to see familiar faces. I don’t really use fancy words to describe what we do here. We just have a job and we do it. I remember when the 12, 19 building looked newer than it does now. Things age, I guess. My cousin used to help me out during the summers, but now he has his own work to do. I mostly handle everything by myself now. It keeps me busy. When it’s really hot outside, the shop feels like the only good place to be. I just keep the floor clean and wait for the next person to walk in. It’s a simple life in Janakpuri.
