Cottage Industries Exposition Ltd., New Delhi

We are tucked away in 9B, Pocket A of the DDA Flats in Hari Nagar. It’s a residential-feeling area in New Delhi, which makes Cottage Industries Exposition Ltd feel more like a part of the community here. The office is inside the flats, so it’s not your typical commercial building. We use the rooms to store different types of hand-loomed fabrics and small gift items. It can get a bit cluttered with all the boxes, but we know where everything is. We don’t have a big marketing budget or a shiny showroom. Instead, we have a lot of shelves and a few desks where we handle the day-to-day business. We spend a lot of time talking to the craftsmen and making sure their work is represented properly. It’s a quiet spot most days, though it picks up when we have a lot of orders to get out. We like the fact that it’s a bit out of the way. It allows us to focus on the details without too many distractions. Sometimes the neighbors come by to see what we're working on. We just give them a seat and show them the latest pieces. It’s a very informal way of doing things, but it’s worked for us for years. We just keep doing what we do, making sure the handicrafts are handled with care and the business stays steady. It’s just us doing our best with the beautiful things we sell.
