Chaurasia Pan Home

Chaurasia Pan Home is located in the Rajouri Garden DDA Market at J 28. It’s a typical small shop with a wooden counter and rows of glass bottles. We focus on the pans, of course. We have the sweet ones, the ones with tobacco, and the plain ones. Every day we get the fresh leaves and wash them carefully. The market here is always full of people shopping for clothes or groceries. We are just a small stop for them. The light in the shop is a bit yellow and we have pictures of deities on the wall with some dried flowers. It’s a quiet life compared to the big showrooms nearby. We know the other shopkeepers and we share tea in the afternoons. Sometimes the kids come in for gum or some small toys we keep on the side. My father started this and now I’m here. We don't change the way we make the pan. It’s a skill, knowing just how much of each ingredient to put in. The floor is concrete and we sweep it out every night before locking up the heavy metal shutter. It’s just a honest way to earn a living in Rajouri Garden. We have a small radio that keeps us company when the market is slow during the day. That is about it.
