Wayanad Exotic Fruit Farmers Producer Company Limited is based in a small building, number Vii/331, over in Kandam Kumarathvalappil. Wayanad is a great place for growing things because of the hills and the weather, so we decided to focus on exotic fruits that you don't see everywhere else. It started with a few of us talking about how we could do things differently. Now, we spend our days checking on the trees and making sure the fruit is growing right. It’s a lot of trial and error because some of these fruits are picky about the soil and the rain. We aren't some big fancy outfit with a lot of marketing people. We are just farmers who like trying out new plants. The work is physical and you’re always at the mercy of the monsoon. When the harvest comes, it’s a mad rush to get everything sorted and moved out. Our spot in Po is where we gather to talk about the next season. It’s a simple setup. We don't have much time for sitting around. If you come by, you’ll probably find us with dirt on our hands or loading up a truck. We’re just trying to make a go of it by growing stuff that people find interesting. It’s been a learning process for all of us, but we’re sticking with it.
