Lavanya Tailors

Lavanya Tailors is the name of my small sewing shop in Gurijala at H. No:-4-9. This is a very quiet part of the Chennaraopet region in Warangal. I have my old sewing machine set up in the front room of my house where the light is best. I spend most of my morning and afternoon measuring out different fabrics and cutting patterns for clothes. I have been sewing outfits for the women and children in this village for a very long time now. They usually bring me their own blouse pieces or dress materials they bought in the city, and then I stitch them to fit. There are times when I have far too many orders at once, especially when a big festival is coming up or during the wedding season. I often have to stay up late at night with a small lamp just to get all the stitching finished on time. My eyes can get quite tired from looking at the small needles, but I still enjoy seeing a finished dress. The shop is very simple and has no fancy decorations. It is just shelves filled with colorful thread and scraps of leftover cloth. Local women often stop by just to sit and talk while I work on my machine. I don't do any complicated designs, just good and honest work that stays together. My daughter helps me out with the buttons when she is home.
