You can find Leela Ladies Tailor at 97, Uthara Thanda in Vemnoor, Mahabubabad. I have been sitting at my sewing machine in this spot for many years now. The shop is part of my house and it’s always full of colorful fabrics and bits of thread on the floor. Women from all over the thanda and even from further away in Mahabubabad come here with their cloth pieces to get blouses and dresses made. I have a big wooden table where I do all the cutting and marking with my chalk. It’s a noisy place when the machine is running fast, and I usually have the radio playing some songs in the background. My eyes aren't as good as they used to be, so I make sure I have a bright bulb right over my workspace for when it gets dark. People come in to talk about the latest weddings or just to see if their clothes are ready for the weekend. I try to keep everything organized in stacks, but sometimes it gets a bit overwhelming when a festival is coming up and everyone wants their new outfits at the same time. The address at number 97 is easy to find because you can usually see a few bright dupattas hanging up to dry or show off. I don't have any help, so I do all the stitching and the finishing work myself. It’s a long day of sitting and sewing, but I like seeing the finished clothes.
