Surekha

My name is Surekha and I run my business from Jyothi Nagar in Maripalem. The door number is 38-19-100. It’s a busy little area in the 530020 part of Visakhapatnam. Maripalem has a lot of energy. There are people moving around all the time. My office is a small space that I've tried to make comfortable. I have some plants on the windowsill, but I always forget to water them, so they look a bit sad. I've been working here for several years now. It started small and it’s still pretty small, which is how I like it. I handle most of the tasks myself. Sometimes my niece comes in to help me with the filing when she’s not at college. We have a small table where we keep the kettle and some biscuits for when people stop by. The walls are painted a light blue, but they need a new coat soon. I spend a lot of time talking to people on the phone and trying to solve their problems. It’s not always easy, and some days are very long. I often stay late until the streetlights come on. The walk home isn't far, which is the best part. I like being part of the community here in Jyothi Nagar. Everyone knows that I'm the person to go to when they need help with these specific things. It’s a modest life, but it’s mine. I enjoy the rhythm of the neighborhood and the people in it.
