E C O Friends Nursery

E C O Friends Nursery is down at 8/741M in Sujatha Nagar, Valimeraka. It is mostly an outdoor space filled with bags of soil and rows of saplings. My hands are usually dirty from working in the pots all morning. It is not a shop with a fancy window display. It is just a lot of green plants sitting out in the sun. We spend a lot of time watering and making sure the bugs stay away. My brother and I run the place with one helper who comes in three days a week. We don't have a big sign, so you have to look for the gate with the bougainvillea hanging over it. People come by to get things for their home gardens or sometimes for bigger farm plots. We keep a few chairs under the shade of a big neem tree for when customers want to sit and talk. The weather really dictates our day. If it rains, we spend time moving the delicate stuff under the shed. It is quiet work, which I like. We aren't trying to be the biggest nursery around. We just like growing things and seeing them take root. It is a lot of physical labor, but it beats sitting in an office all day. We start at dawn and usually finish up before it gets too dark to see.
