A P Social Welfare Residential Schools is tucked away in Narsipatnam in the Visakhapatnam district. It’s a girls' school where they stay on campus. The town of Narsipatnam is a bit quieter than the main city, which helps. The school grounds are fairly large, with enough room for the girls to walk around and get some air. The buildings have been around for a while and show their age in the chipped paint and the heavy wooden doors. Inside, it’s just rows of classrooms and large dormitories filled with bunk beds. Every morning starts with a lot of movement as the girls get ready. We don't have a lot of fancy equipment, just the standard chalkboards and benches. The kitchen is a hub of activity, especially early in the day. You can smell the breakfast cooking from the other side of the yard. We deal with the usual problems like leaky taps or overgrown grass in the rainy season. The staff and the students just get on with things. It’s a very practical way of living. There isn’t much in the way of decoration, just the necessities for studying and sleeping. We follow a strict schedule because that’s the only way to keep a residential school running smoothly. It’s a place where kids grow up and spend most of their year. It feels very lived-in.
