Government Higher Secondary School

You can find the Government Higher Secondary School at 245, Vembakottai Road in Sattur. It’s a big, sturdy building that has been around for quite a long time. The paint on the walls is a little bit old now, but the structure itself is solid enough for the hundreds of students who come here every day. Most of the kids come in from the surrounding villages on the local buses or they just walk if they live close enough to Vembakottai Road. The main gate is always a busy spot around 8:30 in the morning when everyone is rushing to get inside before the assembly starts. We have high ceilings in the classrooms which helps keep the air moving, though we still rely on the fans a lot when the weather gets muggy. The desks are wooden and have many names carved into the tops from students who were here years ago. We don’t have much in the way of extra decorations or fancy equipment. It is just a place for studying the syllabus and getting ready for the state exams. The teachers stay busy with their registers and grading papers in the small staff room during their free periods. It is a very practical environment where the main goal is just to finish the lessons. In the evenings, once the students have all gone home, the building sits quiet and empty until the next morning.
