D.Y.Patil Nursing College Kolhapur

This nursing college is actually located in the Talikoti area of the Bijapur district, even though the name mentions Kolhapur. It’s at a place called Hirur, which is a bit of a rural setting. I guess that makes it a quiet place to study nursing without too many distractions. We have students living in the hostel and others who come from nearby towns. It’s a very practical sort of place. You see the students in their nursing uniforms practicing how to take blood pressure or set up IV drips. The building is simple and doesn't have much in the way of decoration. We focus on the training because that is what matters in a hospital later on. I handle the day-to-day things like the attendance and making sure the supplies are in the right place. It can be a long day, especially when the weather is hot in this part of Karnataka. We have a small kitchen area where we make tea in the afternoons to keep ourselves going. Most of the people working here are from around this district. We don't have a big marketing budget or fancy brochures. People just hear about us from their neighbors or relatives. It’s a straightforward nursing school where the students learn the basics of patient care. It’s hard work, but they seem to get through it. We just try to keep things organized so they can focus on their books and their practicals every day.
