You can find Vellam Shipping & Trading Company over on Kariappa Mudali Street. We are at number 29, right on the first floor. The street can get pretty narrow and crowded, especially when deliveries are being made. We’ve been in this spot for a good while now. The stairs up to the office are a bit steep, but you get used to them after a few trips. It’s an old building with a lot of character, even if the pipes groan sometimes. Inside, it is usually a mix of paperwork and phone calls. Shipping and trading involves a lot of back and forth, so there is always something to track or someone to call. We have a couple of big windows that let in some light, which is nice in the mornings. It’s a small team here, so we all end up doing a bit of everything. If the printer jams, one of us fixes it. If a client walks in, whoever is closest says hello. We don’t have a receptionist or anything like that. We just work hard and try to keep things moving. The neighborhood has changed over the years, but our corner stays pretty much the same. It is a bit noisy with the street sounds, but it keeps us awake. We just keep doing what we do, day in and day out, without making a big deal of it. It’s just how we run the place.
