The Banaras Handicrafts Industries

Our workshop is at K. 37/113 G.D.S Lane, right in the Golghar area near Andheri Kothi. It’s a bit of a maze back here, but we like the spot. The Banaras Handicrafts Industries has been operating out of this space for quite a while now. It's where all the making happens. You can hear the tools clinking and see people focused on their craft from early morning until late evening. It isn't a clean, white office; it’s a place where things are actually made. There are scraps of material and tools lying around, which is just how a real craft place should look. We don't have a fancy showroom. Most people just come straight to the workshop if they want to see what we're doing. It can get pretty hot in the afternoons, but the work doesn't stop. We're just a bunch of folks who know our trade and stay busy with it. We don't use big words to describe what we do. It's just handicrafts. We take our time and do it right, even if the building is old and the lane is narrow. That's just how things are for us here in Golghar. Sometimes we have to move stuff around just to find a place to sit and have lunch, but that's part of the charm of a working shop. We're happy to just keep making things and staying true to what we've always done.
