Sheesh Mahal Hair Draiser

Sheesh Mahal Hair Draiser is sitting on the busy Lahurabir Road in the Jagat Ganj area of Varanasi. We are right near Maharaja Fast Food, so the smell of chowmein and samosas often drifts into the shop in the evenings. The name of the shop is quite old but the work we do is just the usual hair cutting and beard trimming that men need. I have been working here for years and the shop has seen many changes on this street. The traffic outside is always loud with horns and people shouting, but inside we just focus on the hair. I have a few big mirrors and some plastic chairs for people to wait. It is not a fancy place with fancy names for things. If someone wants a haircut, they just sit down and tell me how short they want it. I use the same kind of scissors I have had for a long time because they feel right in my hand. Sometimes the floor gets very messy with all the hair falling down but I sweep it up whenever I get a spare minute. Many of the older men from around here have been coming to me since they were young. We talk about how Varanasi is changing and how busy it has become. It is a good life here on this road. I usually lock up the shop late at night when the food stall next door starts to close and the traffic finally slows down.
