Max Hair Dresses is located right on Mint Road in the Nadesar part of Varanasi. If you’re looking for us, we’re directly opposite the Hotel Taj. It’s funny because that hotel is so big and grand, and we’re just a small hair shop across the street. We get a real mix of people here. Sometimes it’s tourists who wandered out of their fancy rooms, but mostly it’s the local guys who work in the nearby offices or drive the rickshaws around Nadesar. The shop has been here for a good while. I’ve seen the roads get paved and the buildings change around us. Inside, it’s just the usual stuff you’d expect—some old chairs, a few bottles of spray, and the sound of scissors clicking. It gets hot in the afternoons, so we keep the fan running at full speed. We don’t bother with fancy decor or anything that looks too corporate. We just focus on the task at hand. If someone wants a shave, they get a clean one. If they want a trim, they get that too. There’s no pressure and no sales talk. People come here because they know us and we know them. It’s just a normal part of life on Mint Road. We open up early and stay until the sun goes down, just trying to make a living like everyone else in this city.
