R. K. Engineering Co.

Being at 186,B, Gidc, Makarpura means we are surrounded by other workshops and factories. R. K. Engineering Co. has its own corner in this big industrial zone. The gates are usually open early because there is always something that needs fixing or a part that needs to be cut. The floor is concrete and has some oil patches that never really go away no matter how much we sweep. We have a few old machines that have been with us since the beginning and some newer ones that take up a lot of space. The noise is constant, but you get used to it after a week. It’s the sound of work. We don't have a receptionist or a fancy waiting area. If you come by, you usually find us in the back with grease on our hands. We talk about the projects over the sound of the lathes. The air smells like cutting fluid and hot steel. Sometimes we have to stay late when a job is tricky or a machine breaks down. It is not the kind of place where people wear suits. We wear overalls and heavy boots. It’s a practical setup here in Makarpura. We know our neighbors and they know us. Most of the guys have been working here for years and they know every sound the machines make. It's a busy life but we enjoy the routine of it all.
