About Maruti Engineering – Engineering in Vadodara
Our unit is over at A-1-292 in the GIDC Estate. It’s one of those typical industrial plots where the gate is always open. Engineering work is what fills our time, mostly focused on metal fabrication and fixing up parts for other factories in the estate. It’s a loud place. There’s usually someone grinding metal or welding something in the corner. You can see the sparks from the street. We don't have a front office with a receptionist. If you want to talk to someone, you just walk in and find whoever isn't holding a tool at that moment. The walls are stained with grease and we have old calendars hanging up from five years ago. We don't really care about the decor. The focus is on the lathes and the drill presses. We have a small crew, just a handful of guys who know their way around an engine or a steel plate. Usually, we start around eight in the morning and work until the sun goes down. If there is a rush job, we stay late and order food from the dhaba down the road. It’s basic, honest work. We don't make big promises we can't keep. People bring us a broken part, and we see if we can make it work again or if we need to cut a new one from scratch. That's just how the day goes for us here.
