Fatepura is a place where everyone knows everyone else’s business. I’ve lived and worked here all my life. My name is Khokhar Ramizahmed S, and this is just my corner of the world. The streets are narrow, and you have to be careful when the scooters fly past. My place isn't big. It’s got a heavy wooden door that creaks every time someone opens it. Inside, it’s mostly quiet except for the sound of the ceiling fan and the occasional horn from outside. I spend a lot of time sitting at my desk, looking out the small window. You see the same faces every morning. The tea seller passes by at nine, and the kids walk to school a bit earlier. It’s a predictable life, but I like it that way. We don't have a big sign out front, just a small one that's a bit faded from the sun. People find me through word of mouth mostly. If someone needs something, they just ask around Fatepura and eventually end up at my door. The walls are painted a dull yellow that I should probably refresh, but it’s fine for now. It feels lived-in. I don’t believe in making things look better than they are. This is just a practical space for practical work. When the sun goes down, the whole neighborhood changes, and things get a bit more lively with the food stalls. It gets noisy then, but that's just part of being here.
