At Jacobs Engineering India Pvt Ltd in Baroda, we work out of a duplex. It is number 3, Priti Duplex, located in the Subhanpura area. We are right near the Gorwa Workshop, which is a major landmark in this part of town. Working in a duplex is a bit different than a standard office floor. We have the downstairs for the more active stuff and the upstairs for the quiet design work. It is a practical arrangement for a small engineering team. Subhanpura is a good location because it is well-connected to the rest of Vadodara. The neighborhood has a mix of houses and small businesses, so it never feels too isolated. We have been in this spot for quite a while now. Inside, the walls are mostly covered with calendars and project charts. There isn't any fancy furniture; we just have what we need to get through the day. The sound of the workshop nearby is a constant reminder of the industrial nature of our work. We take our breaks in the small courtyard or walk down the street for a snack. It is a very grounded place to work. We don't go in for big marketing talk or fancy presentations. We just show our work through the drawings and reports we produce. Everyone in the office knows each other well, and we usually just shout across the room if we have a question. It is a simple, hardworking atmosphere that suits us just fine.
