We operate out of Bhagay Laxmi Society, specifically at house A 83. It’s basically our home base and also where we keep the trucks parked when they aren't out on a moving job. It’s a busy life being in the packing and moving business around here. There are always rolls of bubble wrap, rolls of tape, and big stacks of cardboard boxes lying around the yard or in the driveway. We start our days really early, usually before the sun is even up, loading the heavy blankets and ropes into the back of the vans. Moving house is a stressful thing for most people, so we see a lot of anxious families and crying kids. We just try to get their furniture and boxes from one place to the next without breaking anything important. My brother and my nephews do most of the heavy lifting and carrying up the stairs. We’ve got a couple of big trucks and one smaller one for those really narrow back streets where the big ones can't fit. The office is just a simple desk in the front room with a phone that doesn't stop ringing during the summer. We don't have a big fancy warehouse or a corporate office. Everything is very hands-on and manual. Sometimes we're out late at night finishing a move to another city. It’s a lot of physical work and sweating. People in the society know us because we’re always moving things. It’s a family-run thing.
