Divakar Sarees

We are over at number 7 in the Dhanmandi area. Being near the grain market means there is always a lot of activity, trucks, and people carrying bags. Divakar Sarees is tucked in between a spice shop and a small hardware store. It’s a plain looking place from the outside. Inside, we have rows of sarees in plastic covers to keep the dust off them. The floor is old stone and stays cool even in the summer. We have a big wooden desk where we do all the accounts. It’s been there since my father started the business. We don't have any flashy lights or mannequins in the window. We just put a few nice pieces out on the hangers. Most people come in because they know us or someone told them about us. We don't do much talking unless someone asks a question. We just show the sarees and let the cloth do the talking. Sometimes we get a big order for a wedding, and the whole place gets turned upside down. But most days it's just one or two people looking for something simple. We take our time, have our tea, and close up when the market starts to empty out. It's a quiet way to earn a living, and we're used to it now.
