Amla Utpadak Sahakari Samit

You can find us at Baif Bhawan in G-Block, over in Sector 14. We are right near the community hall, which is a good landmark because people are always there for weddings or meetings. Amla Utpadak Sahakari Samit is a cooperative, so it’s owned and run by the people who actually grow the fruit. Our office is pretty modest. We have sacks of dried amla and bottles of juice sitting around most of the time. The whole place has that sharp, tangy smell that sticks to your clothes. It’s a busy spot during the harvest season when the farmers bring in their loads. We spend our days grading the fruit and figuring out the payments. It’s a lot of manual record-keeping, though we try to use the computer when it behaves. The staff is mostly local folks who have been around amla trees their whole lives. We aren't trying to build a global empire; we just want to make sure the members get a fair deal for their crops. Sometimes we sit out on the steps during lunch and watch the traffic go by the community hall. It’s a friendly atmosphere, and anyone can walk in and ask what we’re up to. We just do our best to process everything before it spoils. It’s practical, earthy work that keeps the local economy moving a little bit.
