Shri Singhal Grain

Living and working around Surajpole means you get used to the constant sound of traffic and the general chaos of the city gates. Shri Singhal Grain is right there in the thick of it. We don't have a big fancy sign or a modern showroom. It is just a regular place where we deal with grain every single day. The morning starts early, usually before the sun is even fully up, because that is when the first movement happens. We spend a lot of time moving sacks around and checking what’s inside them. It’s heavy work and your back definitely feels it by the time evening rolls around. There is always dust in the air and the smell of jute bags everywhere you turn. We sit on the floor mostly, or on some old wooden stools, keeping track of things in our books. People come and go, some staying for a quick chat and others just wanting to get their business done so they can beat the traffic out of Surajpole. It’s not a clean or quiet job, but it is what we know how to do. Some days are slow and we just sit and watch the bikes go by, and other days we don’t even have time to eat lunch until four in the afternoon. We just keep at it, day in and day out, handling the grain and talking to the people who bring it in from the fields.
