We are based at 949, City Palace Road, inside the Asind Ki Haveli. It is an old building with a lot of character, right in the heart of Udaipur. Working in a haveli is different from a modern office; the walls are thick and it stays a bit cooler, which is a blessing in the Rajasthan heat. Sayari Roots Of Gypsy Sansthan is mostly about the local culture and music. We spend a lot of time with folk artists and musicians. Our space is often filled with the sound of instruments being tuned or people discussing old songs. It is not a very formal place. There are rugs on the floor and instruments leaning against the walls. We spend a lot of our time organizing performances or just hanging out with the performers. The City Palace Road is always packed with tourists and locals, so there is a lot of energy right outside our door. Sometimes it is hard to get work done with all the noise, but it is part of the charm. We are not trying to be a big corporate entity. We just care about the music and the people who make it. Our records are mostly on paper, and we do things the old-fashioned way. It is a slow pace of life here compared to the big cities, and we like it that way. If you walk past the haveli, you will probably hear us before you see us.
