Our spot is located at 650 near the Gurudwara in the Guru Arjun Das Colony. This is over in Sector 11 of Hiran Magri, which is a part of Udaipur that feels more like a proper neighborhood and less like a tourist destination. Being so close to the Gurudwara gives the area a certain atmosphere, though it can get pretty busy during local festivals or community events. We started doing our work from this location because it’s where we feel most at home. The office isn’t huge, but it has enough room for us to sit and go over all the plans for weddings and parties that people bring to us. We spend a lot of our time talking to vendors who stop by to show us their decorations or discuss the logistics of setting up a stage. Sometimes the office gets a little dusty from the wind blowing through the colony, but that’s just how it is here. We try to keep our conversations with families simple and direct. Nobody here is interested in using big words or pretending to be something we aren’t. We just know how to organize things and make sure the tents are up and the lights are working. It’s hard work and the days can be long, but being in Sector 11 makes us feel like we are really part of the local community. It is a good place to be for this kind of work.
