Vagai Millets Farmers Producer Company Limited is basically just us working out of 43 Rottu Street in C. Vagaikulam. Vagaikulam is a small place, and our office is right there on the street where everyone passes by. We focus mostly on millets because that’s what grows well in our soil here, and there’s always a lot of dust from the processing. The room at number 43 is often filled with the sound of people talking and the hum of a small fan. We aren't a big operation with a lot of money; we’re just farmers who got together to try and handle our own sales. We don't have any fancy marketing people telling us what to say. We just know that millets are hard work to grow and even harder to sell at a good price if you're on your own. Most days you’ll find one or two of us sitting by the window, looking out at Rottu Street and waiting for the next truck to arrive. The paperwork is a bit of a headache, and we sometimes get behind on it when the harvest is coming in fast. We don't worry too much about being professional in the way city people mean it. We just care about the crop and making sure the work gets done. It’s a simple life and a simple business here in Vagaikulam.
