Heidelberg Cement India Ltd

Down here at Ammasandra-Post, right along National Highway 43, you’ll find us. This is where Heidelberg Cement India Ltd operates out of. It’s a big site, 87-9-68-521 is the official bit, but we just call it the yard. Being near the highway makes it easy for the big lorries to get in and out, though the noise is constant. We’ve got a lot of machinery running most of the day, so it’s never really quiet. The dust gets everywhere, on the cars, the windows, even the coffee mugs if you aren’t careful. We’ve got a mix of people working here, some from Neeragunda and some from further out. It’s a lot of physical labor and making sure the shifts are covered. The office part is just some desks shoved together where we track the shipments and yell over the phone. We don't have any fancy plants or decorations. It’s a cement site, after all. On lunch breaks, we usually sit outside if it’s not too windy. The work is steady because people are always building something new. We just focus on getting the bags loaded and the trucks moved out. It’s a lot of coordination, and sometimes things get backed up, but we manage. We aren’t really into the corporate talk; we just do the work that needs doing every day. It's a bit of a grind but we have a good laugh when things go right.
