Stones Zone

We are right here in Kolathur, just by the Rajamangalam Police Station signal on 100 Feet Road. It gets pretty loud with all the traffic passing by, but we have been at this spot for a while now. Most days start early with the sound of trucks unloading slabs and the guys moving heavy pieces around the yard. People usually find us because they are stuck at the light and see the stacks of stone sitting outside. We spend a lot of time just sweeping up the dust that comes off the granite. It is a messy job and our clothes usually show it by noon. When a customer walks in, we usually just let them wander around the rows of stone to see what catches their eye. There is no air conditioning in the main yard, so it gets hot under the sun, but that is just how it is. Sometimes we sit inside the little office area when it rains too hard to work outside. We don't have fancy displays or anything like that. It is just us, the stone, and the noise from the street. If someone needs a piece cut for a kitchen or a floor, we talk about the size and see if we have enough of that specific batch left. It is basic work but it keeps us busy from morning until the sun goes down and the signal lights get bright.
