Balaji Dairy

Balaji Dairy is located at number 42 on Beri Street in Pallipat. It’s right there in the Thiruvallur district. We start our days very early here, usually when it is still dark outside and most people are sleeping. The air is a bit cooler then. We handle a lot of milk cans and they make a lot of noise when they are being moved around on the concrete floor. The building on Chandrahasan Ss is just a simple place. We don’t have any fancy decorations or big signs that light up. There is a small desk where we keep our accounts in a handwritten notebook. Sometimes the ink smears because our hands are wet from the milk containers. People from the neighborhood come by with their own vessels to get what they need for their families. We know most of them by their names. It gets quite hot in the afternoons, so we have a small fan that hums in the corner. It doesn't do much but it helps a little. The street outside gets busy with cycles and people walking to the post office. We spend a lot of time cleaning up and making sure the floor is washed down. It’s hard work and our backs ache by the time we finish for the day. We don't have a big team, just a few of us working together to get things done. It’s a quiet life here in Pallipat. We just keep our heads down and do the work. The sun goes down and we lock up.
