The Park Hotel, Chennai.

The Park Hotel in Chennai is situated at No. 193, New Corporation Line in the Pattalam area. It’s a busy part of town and the street outside is always full of life, especially in the mornings. Being in Chennai, it’s almost always hot, so the first thing anyone does when they walk in is look for the fan or the cooling. We’ve been at this Pattalam location for a while now. The building has a lot of history to it, and you can see it in the way the stairs are worn down in the middle from years of people going up and down. It’s not one of those massive glass towers you see in the newer parts of the city. We have a routine here that starts very early before the sun is even fully up. There’s a lot of cleaning to do because the dust from the New Corporation Line traffic settles on everything. We handle the rooms and the guests as they come. Sometimes the plumbing acts up because the pipes are old, and we have to call the guy from down the street to take a look. It’s a place with a lot of character. We don't use any fancy systems for everything; a lot of stuff is still written down in ledgers by hand. If you look out the back windows, you see the rooftops of the neighborhood. It’s just how things are here every day.
