Svk Cardamom Plantation

Down at 121/1, Periyar Street, on T.Pet Road, you will find the main hub for Svk Cardamom Plantation. It is a place that usually smells like spices, especially when the harvest is being brought in from the fields. We spend a lot of time sorting through the pods and making sure everything is dried properly. It is physical work, and our hands usually end up smelling like cardamom for days. The office part is just a small room with a heavy desk and a couple of ledgers where we track the weights and the prices. T.Pet Road can get quite dusty, so we spend a lot of time sweeping the floor. There are always people coming by to check on the crop or just to have a chat about the weather, which is the most important thing for us. If the rain doesn't come at the right time, everything gets a bit tense around here. We don't have a website or a big marketing team. Most of what we do is based on long-standing relationships with the local traders. It’s a simple life tied to the seasons. When the sun goes down, we lock up the shutters and head home, only to start it all again the next morning when the first truck arrives from the plantation. It is hard work, but there is something satisfying about seeing the bags filled and ready for transport.
