We are situated at number 78 on the Manapparai Road in Pannankombu. It’s a bit of a rural stretch, so we see a lot of tractors and local buses going past our front door. The shop is a mix of a warehouse and a small trading floor where we keep different types of tiles. It’s often very quiet in the afternoons when the sun is high, and we just sit near the entrance to catch whatever breeze comes through. We handle a lot of the loading and unloading ourselves, so there are always empty crates and straw packing material lying around the back. Sometimes the local farmers stop by to chat or look at tiles for their new houses. We don’t have any computer systems or high-tech gadgets, just a simple book where we write down what comes in and what goes out. The floor is concrete and stays relatively cool, which is nice. We’ve got a small radio that plays local songs while we work. It’s a simple life here in Pannankombu, far away from the big city rush. When a customer comes, we just walk them through the rows and let them touch the tiles to see if they like the feel. We don’t try to push anyone to buy anything. We just tell them what we have and let them decide. Usually, we close up as soon as it gets dark because the road gets too quiet then.
