Venganoor Village Integrated H/L Weavers Co.Op Soc. Ltd.

This is the Venganoor Village Integrated H/L Weavers Co.Op Soc. Ltd., and we are based out of Peringamala in the Kalliyoor Post area. We’re a cooperative society, which means we’re basically a group of local weavers who pooled our resources together. Our place is identified by the number H.Ind (T) 587. It’s a very different vibe here compared to the big city offices. You can hear the rhythmic clicking of the handlooms almost as soon as you get near the building. We focus on traditional weaving, keeping the old methods alive because that’s what we know how to do. The air is often thick with the smell of dyed yarn and cotton. It’s a community effort here; everyone knows everyone else, and we all look out for the quality of the cloth coming off the looms. It’s not a high-tech operation by any means. We rely on our hands and the wooden frames of the looms to get the work done. The office part of the society is just a small room where we keep our records and talk about our production schedules. It’s honest work that takes a lot of patience. Most of us grew up watching our parents weave, so it’s just a natural part of life in Venganoor for us. We don’t have any big sales pitches, just the fabric we make and the community we’ve built over many years in this village.
