You can find Smy Hardware Tools & Marine Metals at No. 4 in the Mulloor Building. We are right opposite KTC on Market Road. It is a busy spot, and the traffic outside is constant. We deal with a lot of heavy-duty hardware and specialized metals for boats. The shop has that heavy, metallic smell that you only get in places that handle marine gear. It is a lot of heavy lifting. We move big chains, anchors, and metal sheets every day. The building itself is old, so it has a lot of character, but it also means we are always fixing a leaky pipe or a creaky door. We do not have a showroom with bright lights. Most of our stock is kept in the back or stacked along the walls. When a customer comes in, we usually have to go digging to find exactly what they want. It is a hands-on kind of business. My hands are almost always covered in a bit of rust or oil. We get a lot of people from the docks coming in, so the conversation is usually about the weather or the state of the harbor. We are not trying to be a fancy retail store. We are just a place where you can get the metal parts you need for your boat or your building project. It is loud, it is messy, and it is our home.
