About The Lawrance School – Education in The Nilgiris
We’ve been up here in Lovedale for quite a while now. The air is always a bit thin and chilly in Ootacammund, so the kids usually have their sweaters on most of the year. It’s a big place with lots of old stone buildings and paths that wind around the hills. Life here moves at its own pace. Mornings start early when the mist is still hanging over the grass. We spend a lot of time walking from one building to another because everything is spread out across the grounds. The bells ring for classes and meals, and that’s basically how we track our days. It isn’t always easy keeping everything running in this weather, especially when the rains come and things get damp. We just get on with it, though. The students stay in the dorms and learn how to manage their own stuff, like making their beds or keeping their shoes clean. Sometimes the wind howls through the trees at night, which can be a bit spooky if you aren't used to it. Most of us have been here for years and we know every corner of the property. It’s quiet, away from the city noise, and that’s how we like it. There’s plenty of space for the kids to run around when they aren't in the classroom. We don't make a big fuss about things, we just try to keep everyone fed, warm, and busy with their books and games until the term finally ends and they go home for the break.
