Mrs Bullmores Matriculation School

Our school is located in the Balaclava area, which is just a short walk from the Coonoor Railway Station. You can actually hear the toy train whistling as it pulls in or heads out towards Mettupalayam. Mrs Bullmores Matriculation School has a lot of history tied to this part of the hills. The buildings are older and have that classic Coonoor look with sloped roofs to handle all the rain we get. Sometimes the dampness gets into the walls, but we do our best to keep everything painted and dry. We have a small garden area that the kids help look after, though the weeds grow faster than we can pull them sometimes. It’s a very hilly spot, so there is a lot of walking up and down slopes just to get from one classroom to another. The air is almost always cool, and we often have to start the day with jackets on. We don’t have a big auditorium or a fancy stadium, just a small courtyard where we gather for prayers and announcements. The local kids walk to school through the narrow lanes of Balaclava, often carrying umbrellas just in case. It’s a humble place that has seen many generations pass through its doors. We just keep things running as they always have been, focusing on the daily work without making much of a fuss.
