Fab O Mech Engineer

We've been at Warehouse No 3 for a while now. It's inside the Kothari Compound, right near the D Mart in Manpada. If you know Thane West, you know how traffic gets around here, especially in the evenings. Our space isn't huge, just one of those K8 units, but it fits everything we need for the engineering work. Some days the machines never stop humming. It's loud, and there is always metal dust somewhere, no matter how much we sweep up in the morning. We spend most of our time dealing with technical drawings and getting the parts right. It's not fancy work, just honest mechanical stuff. My shirt usually has some grease on it by lunch. We start early because it’s cooler then. Once the sun hits the 27-acre plot, the warehouse gets warm. Most of the guys here live nearby, so we take our tea breaks together out by the gate. We don't have a big front office with air conditioning. It’s just the workshop and a desk where we keep the logs. People drop by with different requirements, and we try to see what can be done. Some jobs are quick, others take a week of fiddling with the lathe. We just keep our heads down and handle the orders as they come in. It’s a bit messy sometimes, but that’s just how it goes when you’re actually making things instead of just talking about them. We usually wrap up when the light fades.
