Umiya Engineering Works

Over at Umiya Engineering Works, we spend our time at Plot No. 1829 in Phase-4. We are mostly a machine shop. We have lathes, milling machines, and a couple of drill presses that have seen better days but still cut straight. People bring us parts that are broken or need to be made from scratch. It is a lot of measuring and double-checking blueprints. Sometimes the drawings we get are just sketches on a piece of cardboard, but we figure it out eventually. The floor is usually oily, and there are metal shavings everywhere. We wear heavy boots and keep our sleeves rolled up. It is a small team, just a few of us who know how to handle the tools. We do not have a website or a marketing person. Most of our work comes from other shops in Phase-4 that need something specific done. We take pride in the fact that when we fix something, it stays fixed. The coffee pot in the corner is always on, and that is where we stand and talk about the jobs for the day. It is not a glamorous life, but it is a good one. We like the feeling of taking a raw piece of metal and turning it into something useful for someone else. We just show up every morning, open the shutters, and start the engines. That is how Umiya Engineering Works has always operated and how we stay in business.
