Sri Hans Silk Mills

Sri Hans Silk Mills is tucked away at 3004, 1st Cross in Valmikinagar, just off the Mysore Road in Athwa. It’s a busy corner of the world. You can hear the traffic from Mysore Road all day long, it never really stops. Our place is in the first cross, so it’s a little bit quieter than being right on the main strip, which is nice for when we are trying to count things. The building is an older one. We have high ceilings and the air stays relatively cool even when it’s hot outside. We deal with a lot of heavy lifting here. There are rolls of things and boxes stacked up in the corners. We try to keep the 3004 unit tidy but it’s hard when new stuff is coming in every other day. Most of the people working here at Sri Hans Silk Mills have been here for years. We know the neighbors and the guy who sells tea at the corner. It's a tight community in Valmikinagar. We don't have any fancy decorations on the walls, just a calendar and maybe a clock that runs five minutes fast. You get used to the rhythm of the place. It's not a showroom, it's a mill, so there is always a bit of dust and the sound of work being done. We just keep our heads down and do what needs doing. We usually lock up around six in the evening when the light starts to fade.
