Surat is known for its weaving and we are just one part of that big world. Our space is functional and simple. We have our machines and our desks and not much else because we don't need much else to do the weaving work properly. The neighborhood is a mix of houses and small businesses, so it feels a bit more personal than being in a giant office tower in the city center. Sometimes the neighbors stop by to say hello or we see the cows being moved nearby when we are coming into work. It is a steady rhythm of work here. We look at a lot of thread and fabric samples every day until our eyes get tired. It gets very hot in the summers, but we just deal with it and keep the looms running as long as we can. We aren't a massive factory, just a local LLP trying to keep things consistent and reliable. We take care of our equipment and make sure the people working here are doing okay. It is the kind of place where everyone knows where the spare keys are kept and who takes their tea with no sugar.
