You can find Aagam Silk Mills Pvt. Ltd. over at U- 1223 on the ground floor of the Surat Textile Market. If you know the Ring Road area, you know how hectic it gets. There are people everywhere and trucks constantly loading and unloading. Our spot is right in the middle of that chaos. Inside, it’s a bit quieter but still very busy. We have stacks of silk that we handle every day. Silk is delicate, so you have to be careful with your hands and make sure everything is clean. The lighting in the market isn't always the best, so we have some extra lamps at the desks. We spend a lot of time on the phone or talking to people who walk in from the street. It’s a lot of manual work, moving rolls of silk around and checking the patterns. We aren't some big corporate office with carpets and glass walls. We are in the thick of the market. Sometimes the air conditioning in the building struggles when it’s really hot outside, but we just keep going. We’ve been at U- 1223 for a long time now. People come to us because they know we are always here. We don't bother with fancy talk. We just show the silk and do the business. It’s a long day on the Ring Road, but that’s the life of a textile worker in Surat. We have to be careful with the silk because it catches on everything if you aren't mindful. Our hands are usually a bit rough.
