We’ve been located on Saswad Road in Bhekrai Nagar, Adajan, for a long time. The address is number 41. It’s a bigger shop than some of the others around here because we deal with more than just phones. I’ve got old radios and some television sets in the back that I still tinker with when I have time. The mobile phone side of things grew so fast that it takes up most of the front now. My father started this business under a different name, and I changed it to New Prakash when I took over. The shelves are a bit dusty and some of the display models are years old, but it gives the place character. It’s a family-run operation. My wife helps with the books and I handle the customers and the repairs. We’ve seen the whole neighborhood change around us. New buildings going up, old ones coming down. Some days it feels like we are the only thing that stays the same. The afternoon sun hits the front of the shop pretty hard, so we keep the shutters halfway down to stay cool. It’s a bit dark inside but we have good work lights. We don't have fancy uniforms or anything. I usually just wear a plain shirt and work until I’m tired. It’s just a regular electronics shop doing its thing day after day. I’ve fixed everything from those old brick phones to the new ones they have now. It’s been a long journey on Saswad Road.
