The shop at Gotalawadi 3 is where I spend most of my hours. It’s mostly just me and a lot of tools scattered across the back bench. People call it a shop, but it feels more like a workshop most days. I have these tiny screwdrivers and magnifying glasses everywhere because the parts in these modern phones are getting smaller and smaller. It’s a bit of a headache when a customer brings in a phone that’s been dropped in water, but I do what I can. The neighborhood is okay, though the parking out front can be a real problem during the busy morning hours. I usually have a cup of tea around four in the afternoon from the stall nearby, which helps me get through the rest of the work. There’s always a pile of phones waiting to be fixed on the shelf, and I try to get through them in the order they came in. Sometimes parts take a few days to arrive, so the shelves get a bit cluttered with boxes and bubble wrap. It’s not a very fancy setup, just a solid table and good lighting. I like the routine of it all. You open up the shutters, see what needs doing, and just get to work. Most people who come in are from around here, so we end up talking about local news while I’m working on their screens.
