Living and working in Adajan means seeing the same faces every single day. Maruti Chemist is tucked into the neighborhood here, and it’s been our daily life for quite some time. The streets of Adajan have their own way of breathing, quiet in the afternoons when the sun is high and then suddenly very busy as the schools let out and people finish their shifts. We don't have a giant neon sign or anything like that. It’s just a standard shop with shelves lining every wall. We spend hours checking the inventory and making sure nothing is out of place. Sometimes it feels like we are just moving boxes from one side to the other. Customers come in and tell us about their families or how the weather is affecting them. It’s a lot of small talk over the counter. We’ve seen kids grow up and start coming in on their own to pick up things for their parents. The fan overhead hums constantly, which is a sound we don't even notice anymore. Being a chemist here isn't about anything flashy. It is about knowing which drawer holds which medicine and making sure the fridge stays at the right temperature for the stuff that needs to stay cold. We just do the work, day in and day out, and that’s plenty for us. Adajan is a good place to be, and we’re happy to stay here.
